[OSENWORLD] The long-awaited Disney+ global project Tempest (Korean title: 북극성) has confirmed its worldwide premiere for September 10, and unveiled a dramatic teaser poster.
Starring Gianna Jun and Gang Dongwon, the series follows Moonju (played by Jun), a former UN ambassador with an impeccable international reputation. Her life takes a dangerous turn when she begins chasing the truth behind a high-profile presidential assassination attempt. Alongside her is Sanho (Gang), a mysterious special agent with no national allegiance, tasked with protecting her. Together, they uncover a massive conspiracy that threatens the Korean peninsula.
The newly revealed “Into the Storm” poster captures the visceral presence of its two stars. With a striking contrast of blood red against black and white, and layered textures that heighten the tension, the design channels the high-stakes chaos at the heart of Tempest. The artwork was created by Empire Design, the renowned UK-based agency behind posters for The Handmaiden, Decision to Leave, Stoker, and Exhuma.
Both Jun and Gang are shown staring intensely in the same direction, as if bracing for the eye of the storm—an image that mirrors the English title Tempest and hints at the emotional and physical turbulence the duo must navigate together. The story promises not only gripping spy-thriller action but also an emotional journey anchored in trust and survival.
Behind the camera, Tempest brings together an all-star creative team. Director Kim Hee-won—acclaimed for her sophisticated, trend-savvy work on Queen of Tears and Vincenzo—joins forces with action specialist Heo Myeong-haeng (The Roundup: Punishment, Badland Hunters). The script is written by Chung Seo-kyung, known for her bold storytelling in Decision to Leave and Little Women.
Adding further cinematic weight are cinematographer Lee Mo-gae (Exhuma, Hunt, 12.12: The Day), music directors Dalpalan (Kingdom 2, Moving, Escape) and Jung Jae-il (Parasite, Squid Game, Mickey 17), and production designer Kim Byung-han (Narco-Saints, Ashfall, Nine Puzzle).
The ensemble cast also includes John Cho, Lee Mi-sook, Park Hae-jun, Kim Hae-sook, Yoo Jae-myung, Oh Jung-se, Lee Sang-hee, Joo Jong-hyuk, and Won Ji-an, promising layered performances and tightly woven narrative tension.
Tempest premieres September 10 with the release of its first three episodes. Starting September 17, two new episodes will drop weekly, bringing the series to a total of nine episodes—streaming exclusively on Disney+.
