[OSENWORLD] BTS’ landmark track “DNA” has achieved a new milestone in Japan, adding to the group’s long list of global accolades.
The Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) announced on August 28 that “DNA,” the lead single from the 2017 album LOVE YOURSELF 承 ‘Her’, surpassed 200 million cumulative streams in July and has officially been certified Double Platinum in the streaming category.
“DNA” holds a special place in BTS’ career as the track that first carried the group onto the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. At the same time, its parent album entered the Billboard 200, making BTS the first Korean act ever to appear on both of Billboard’s main charts simultaneously — a breakthrough moment that signaled their global rise.

With this latest recognition, BTS now has six songs in the RIAJ’s Double Platinum club: “Dynamite,” “Permission to Dance,” “Butter,” “Boy With Luv (feat. Halsey),” “Stay Gold,” and now “DNA.” The RIAJ grants monthly certifications based on cumulative streams: Gold (50M), Platinum (100M), Double Platinum (200M), and Diamond (500M).
Musically, “DNA” is a vibrant electro-pop track laced with acoustic guitar elements, built around a theme of destined love — the idea that two people are bound together down to their DNA. Its refreshing and youthful sound captured the spirit of BTS at a pivotal moment in their career.
BTS are currently preparing a new album for release next spring, alongside a large-scale world tour that will mark their high-profile return as “21st-century pop icons.”
