[OSENWORLD] BigHit Music’s rookie boy group CORTIS have underscored their “young creative crew” concept by turning a self-made project into the official music video for their debut single.
On August 27 at 9 p.m. KST, members Martin, James, Juhoon, Seonghyeon, and Geonho uploaded a commentary video to the group’s official YouTube channel, revealing how their DIY version of “What You Want” became the blueprint for the official release.
The members explained that they conceived, shot, and edited the original clip entirely on their own. “When someone keeps asking, ‘What do you want?’ it can feel overwhelming. We wanted to capture the sensation of breaking free from that pressure, which led us to the idea of ‘dreams,’” they said of their concept.
They emphasized that their process was free-flowing and collective: “We throw in every idea, even ones that seem ridiculous at first, and refine them together. We didn’t divide roles or plan out camera angles. Instead, we followed our instincts to capture what felt right.”
What began as a personal experiment soon shaped the official MV. “We never thought the footage we shot for fun would evolve into the real video. But the dream theme and experimental elements carried over well,” the group explained. The desert location of the final shoot was chosen to visualize the central motif of “pressure.”
At the end of the commentary, CORTIS encouraged fans to watch both versions side by side. “It’s like following a mind map. If you understand the connections, you’ll enjoy it twice as much,” they noted.
By taking creative ownership of not only their music and choreography but also their visuals, CORTIS are redefining what it means to debut as a K-pop group. Their first album COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES drops September 8, marking the beginning of their journey to pursue what they truly want, rather than following what others dictate.
