[OSENWORLD] HYBE’s first new boy group in six years, CORTIS (Martin, James, Juhoon, Seonghyeon, Geonho), is showing extraordinary dedication even before their official debut.
On September 1 at 8 p.m. KST, the group unveiled What We Want, a four-part documentary released on HYBE Labels’ official YouTube channel. The series chronicles the making of their debut album COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES, set for release on September 8.
In one of the film’s most striking revelations, the five members revealed they abandoned a track that had already made it to the final round of title song consideration. The decision, they explained, was made to pursue something more authentic and complete. “Our task was to find the story we all wanted to tell,” one member confessed. Another reflected, “Now we’re finally starting to understand what it means to say this is our song.”
The documentary highlights their songwriting camp in Los Angeles last year, capturing unfiltered moments of demo recordings, creative feedback, and collaborations with international producers. Those who worked with the group praised their artistry, saying, “Every member is unique,” “This feels completely different from the K-pop I’ve known,” and even comparing their artistry to fashion with the remark, “Their style is insane.”
CORTIS also took their identity as a “young creator crew” beyond music, choreographing together and directly participating in video production — from concept planning to location scouting, filming, and editing. Closing the documentary, the members promised bold experimentation: “Whatever we try, we’ll make it ours. We’ll make it look cool.”
Launched under BigHit Music, part of HYBE and founded by chairman Bang Si-hyuk, CORTIS is the company’s first rookie group since BTS and TOMORROW X TOGETHER. Expectations among K-pop fans are already running high as the group’s debut approaches.
