[OSENWORLD] Veteran actor Kim Kap-soo has revealed his surprising connection to BTS’s Jin — and how it made him officially join ARMY.
On the September 1 episode of the YouTube show Jjanhan-hyung(짠한형), Kim appeared as a guest and shared stories from his career. Often cast in tragic roles where his characters die, Kim has earned fan nicknames such as “professional death actor” and “pro-death specialist.”
During the show, Kim suddenly admitted, “I’m an ARMY too. Isn’t that funny?” He added with a laugh, “I even signed up for the fan club, though I haven’t followed them overseas.” Praising BTS, he said, “Their music is outstanding, and all the members are truly admirable.”
Kim then recalled an unexpected encounter with Jin: “One day I was having lunch at a neighborhood restaurant when a young man came over to greet me. That was BTS’s Jin,” he revealed, surprising the cast. At the time, Kim admitted he didn’t recognize the group name: “I didn’t know what BTS was then — but if he had said the group’s full Korean name, Bangtan Sonyeondan, I would have known.”
He went on to describe the meeting: “It turned out he was dining with his mother. I told her, ‘You must be proud to have such a wonderful son,’ and I told Jin, ‘Keep working hard.’ It was a warm moment.”
Host Shin Dong-yeob responded, “It’s touching that he approached you first, since that could’ve been awkward.” Kim agreed, praising Jin and the group: “They’re so well-mannered — you can’t help but like them.”
That encounter, Kim revealed, led him to officially join BTS’s fan club. “Whether he knows it or not, I felt I had to do something in return, so I became an ARMY,” he said with a laugh, adding that he even paid for a membership.
When Shin remarked that the BTS members would be moved, Kim humbly replied, “I’m just one of millions of ARMY around the world.”
