[OSENWORLD] MONSTA X’s comeback with their new mini album THE X is attracting global media spotlight, with praise from outlets such as Rolling Stone, Forbes, and U.S. radio network Audacy.
Rolling Stone published an interview on Sept. 1 (local time), calling THE X “a love letter to Monbebe (their official fandom) and a project that captures MONSTA X’s unique musical identity.” The magazine praised the group’s direct involvement in songwriting, composing, and arranging, as well as their collective role in track selection, highlighting it as a mark of true artistic growth. About the title track “N the Front,” the magazine noted: “It’s a chaotic yet melodic rap track, driven by powerful percussion, with the potential to appeal across generations.”
During the interview, I.M shared: “We approached each track with a clear vision. ‘Savior’ was especially perfect for the vocal members.” Rolling Stone added that such vision is what has allowed MONSTA X to endure in a competitive industry, building a legacy they can be proud of rather than chasing purely commercial success.
Forbes also reflected on MONSTA X’s decade-long journey since debuting in 2015, declaring them “icons of Korean music.” The outlet praised the group’s adventurous spirit, from Korean, Japanese, and English albums to their experiments across EDM, Latin, R&B, pop, and future bass. Joohoney underscored this diversity: “Our music has a wide spectrum. THE X shows that vocalists can rap and rappers can sing. It’s about expressing our confidence that ‘we can do anything.’”
The momentum carried into U.S. radio as well, with Audacy featuring the group’s comeback. Kihyun revealed: “I want to release another English album in the future. This is the first time I’m saying it, but it’s already in the works.”
Released on Sept. 1, THE X marks MONSTA X’s official full-group return. The group will begin promotional activities with Mnet’s M Countdown on Sept. 4.
