[OSENWORLD] BLACKPINK’s Rosé has made history at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, becoming the first K-pop artist to win Song of the Year — and one of the night’s double winners.
On September 7, Rosé received Song of the Year at UBS Arena in New York for “APT.,” her duet with Bruno Mars released last October. She also won Best Group alongside Mars, marking her second time winning in that category, following BLACKPINK’s 2023 win. It was the first time a K-pop artist had ever captured Song of the Year at the VMAs, one of the ceremony’s most prestigious honors.
In her acceptance speech, Rosé shared:
“I can’t believe this. I’m so grateful to Bruno Mars, who believed in me from the very beginning and helped me. I dedicate this trophy to the 16-year-old me who chased her dreams. This moment feels like recognition for all the hard work, and I’m so happy to accept it. Teddy — oppa, my producer — I won an award! BLACKPINK members, I won an award! Thank you always, I love you.”
Rosé’s wins were part of a bigger night for BLACKPINK. Member Lisa also claimed Best K-pop for her solo work, giving BLACKPINK three trophies in total at this year’s VMAs.
The night also spotlighted HYBE’s global girl group CAT’S EYE, who earned Push Performance of the Year with their song “Touch.” The group performed “Gnarly” and “Gabriela” during the pre-show, thrilling fans with their high-energy stage. “This moment feels so new to us, and after everything we’ve been through, it feels like such a meaningful payoff. We’re truly grateful,” they said in their acceptance speech.
Beyond K-pop, major international stars also took center stage. Ariana Grande won the top prize, Video of the Year, for “brighter days ahead,” while Lady Gaga was the night’s biggest winner with four trophies, including Artist of the Year and Best Collaboration.
Rosé’s double win — and BLACKPINK’s collective success — underscored K-pop’s expanding influence at one of America’s most high-profile music awards, further solidifying its place on the global pop stage.
