[OSENWORLD] At the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Han So-hee and Jun Jong-seo emphasized that their latest film Project Y is less a typical action movie than a survival drama about two women fighting for their lives.
Directed and written by Lee Hwan, the film follows Miseon (Han) and Dokyung (Jun), two women with nothing but each other, who attempt to escape harsh realities by stealing hidden cash and gold bars. Project Y was officially invited to TIFF’s Special Presentations section, which premiered on September 10 with a red carpet event featuring Han, Jun, and director Lee. The screening drew warm cheers from local fans.
Though both actresses had previously earned praise for action roles — Han in Netflix’s My Name and Jun in Ballerina — they admitted this project demanded something different. Han joked that the action was so demanding she often exclaimed, “It’s too hard!” She explained, “Our film isn’t really about action. It’s about two people surviving by any means necessary. There are moments where we have to use our bodies a lot, which is why the action stands out — but at its heart, it’s a story of survival. I just hope it came across well.”

Jun agreed, noting with a smile: “In Korea, there are action schools where actors train for fight scenes, but I rarely go. Project Y isn’t an action film — it’s about two friends. Yes, there’s plenty of pursuit and physical struggle, but the core of the story is their bond.”
Han added, “I also don’t see it as an action movie. The action is just one part of the journey these two friends undertake. I hope audiences focus on why they fought so hard, what they were trying to protect, and what they hoped to achieve.”
