[OSENWORLD] Kim Go-eun has revealed that the tears she shed during the press conference for Netflix’s You and Everything Else came not only from her role but also from personal loss.
In a September 22 interview, the actress reflected on why she became emotional at the drama’s launch event earlier this month. “In 2023, I lost some of my closest friends in a very short time,” she shared. “That same year, I happened to film Love in the Big City and You and Everything Else. I didn’t plan it that way, but both focused on friendship in one’s twenties, and it brought back so many memories.”
You and Everything Else follows the lifelong, complicated bond of two friends, Eun-jung (Kim) and Sang-yeon (Park Ji-hyun), whose relationship intertwines love, admiration, jealousy, and resentment. For Kim, the story carried even deeper meaning: “I think of it as Eun-jung, the one left behind, telling Sang-yeon’s story. Reading Sang-yeon’s diary and portraying her voice felt like honoring both her life and my own.”

She added that the final scene—where Eun-jung follows Sang-yeon to Switzerland for her assisted death—brought her emotions to the surface. “When I imagined Eun-jung’s heart in that moment, I thought, ‘I want to send her off well.’ In a way, it was also Eun-jung’s chance to do that.”
The actress reflected on the meaning of farewell: “We rarely get the chance to properly say goodbye to someone we truly love. Even being at a loved one’s passing is not always possible. But Eun-jung could be there at the end, to say, ‘You worked hard, you endured well.’ That felt like a gift, even if Eun-jung was left behind. Of course it would be painful, but maybe it lightened her burden just a little. When I think of that scene, the emotions still rise up.”
Her candid words shed light on why she broke down at the press conference. “It’s still hard to put into words,” Kim admitted. “I just hope you’ll write carefully about it.”
