[OSENWORLD] Son Heung-min is making an immediate impact in Major League Soccer. Since joining Los Angeles FC (LAFC), the 33-year-old forward has delivered nine goal contributions in just seven games—scoring six and assisting three—averaging 1.29 per game.
On September 22 (local time), Son once again showcased his influence, recording one goal and one assist in LAFC’s 4–1 victory over Real Salt Lake at BMO Stadium. The win was also his first at home, redeeming the disappointment of his debut with a decisive performance.
Son’s surge in the Western Conference has drawn inevitable comparisons to Lionel Messi, the 38-year-old Argentine legend who leads the Eastern Conference with Inter Miami. Messi has tallied 30 goals and 13 assists in 37 matches this season, averaging 1.16 per game. Messi continues to showcase his timeless quality, but Son’s efficiency over a short stretch has been even more eye-catching.

With Son leading the West and Messi ruling the East, MLS has entered a new era of dual superstars. Together, Asia’s biggest football export and the global icon are powering unprecedented levels of attention and excitement for the league.
The most exciting prospect lies ahead: the only way Son and Messi could meet this season is in the MLS Cup Playoffs. A potential East vs. West clash would be one of the most anticipated encounters in MLS history.
