[OSENWORLD] Gianna Jun’s agency has firmly denied claims that her Chinese endorsement contracts were canceled due to controversy over a line in the Disney+ series Tempest, calling the reports “completely groundless.”
On Sept. 23, a representative from Jun’s side told OSEN: “Claims that Gianna Jun’s Chinese advertisements were canceled because of Tempest are completely groundless.”
The agency added that some advertising and event schedules in China had already been postponed before the series aired. “We checked with our local partners in China, who also confirmed that the reports were false. After several delays, certain contracts were eventually canceled, but the reason cited at the time was local circumstances, not the drama,” the representative explained.

The controversy began with a line spoken by Jun’s character, Seo Mun-joo, in Tempest: “Why does China favor war? A nuclear bomb could fall on the border.” The dialogue sparked strong backlash among Chinese viewers, leading some online users to call for a boycott. Speculation then spread that her endorsement contracts in cosmetics and watches had been canceled.
Tempest follows Seo Mun-joo, a celebrated UN ambassador, as she investigates the mastermind behind an assassination attempt on a presidential candidate. She teams up with San-ho (Kang Dong-won), a stateless special agent, to uncover a conspiracy threatening the Korean peninsula.
