[OSENWORLD] Nam Woo-hyun, member of K-pop group INFINITE, has been cast in the Korean premiere of Broadway’s classic musical Sugar, opening Dec. 12 at the KEPCO Art Center Grand Theater in Seoul. He will take on the role of Joe (Josephine), a romantic saxophonist who, after witnessing a mob murder, disguises himself as a woman to survive — marking a daring transformation for the idol-turned-musical actor.
Sugar is based on Billy Wilder’s timeless 1959 comedy Some Like It Hot, ranked by the American Film Institute as the greatest comedy of all time. Set in 1929 during Prohibition, the story follows two jazz musicians who, after witnessing a mob hit, go undercover in an all-female band — sparking chaos, comedy, and unexpected romance.
For its Korean debut, Sugar reimagines the iconic tale with a modern sensibility, blending dazzling staging, a live orchestra, witty dialogue, and retro flair that immerses audiences in the early 20th century. With a star-studded cast, the production promises both laughter and heartfelt moments.
Nam Woo-hyun is expected to showcase a new side of his artistry through Joe’s sharp wit and surprising charm, taking on a cross-dressing role that demands both comedic timing and emotional nuance. His stage experience positions him well to deliver both humor and depth in this challenging performance.
Since debuting in musicals with Gwanghwamun Sonata (2012), Nam has built a strong résumé with roles in Barnum: The Greatest Showman, The Days, Mephisto, Jack the Ripper, Hourglass, and Bloody Love. Coupled with his powerhouse vocals, dance skills, and acting range as INFINITE’s main vocalist, he has firmly secured his place as a trusted musical actor.
Sugar runs from Dec. 12, 2025, to Feb. 22, 2026, at the KEPCO Art Center Grand Theater in Seoul. Ticketing details will be announced later.
