[OSENWORLD] Kim Woo-bin and Suzy reunite after nine years in Netflix’s highly anticipated fantasy rom-com Genie, Make A Wish (tentative English title), premiering October 3.
The story follows a thousand-year-old lamp genie named Jinny (Kim Woo-bin), who is awakened in the Dubai desert by Ga-young (Suzy), a woman who lives without emotions and strictly by her own rules. It begins as a wager over three wishes. But the game soon questions the very nature of humanity — before twisting into an unexpected romance.
At the press conference held on September 29 at Josun Palace Seoul Gangnam, the cast introduced the project. Kim Woo-bin said, “The script had such strong power. Each page was so good that I didn’t want to let it go. I wanted to bring Kim Eun-sook’s world to life.” Suzy added, “My character is emotionless and bound by her own rules, but I found her incredibly fresh and attractive to portray.”
The drama marks their first reunion since the 2016 series Uncontrollably Fond. Kim Woo-bin takes on the role of a dark yet playful genie, shifting from cruel to unexpectedly endearing, while Suzy plays a woman determined to prove that humans can be good — even if she herself feels no emotions.
The supporting cast includes Ahn Eun-jin as mysterious newcomer Miju, Noh Sang-hyun as an angelic landlord, Ko Kyu-pil as the genie’s jaguar-born servant turned village handyman, and Lee Joo-young as Ga-young’s only friend Min-ji.
This is screenwriter Kim Eun-sook’s first project since The Glory (2022). Though initially attached to director Lee Byung-heon (Extreme Job, Twenty), production shifted to director Ahn Gil-ho (The Glory). Kim Woo-bin noted, “I would have loved to finish this with director Lee, but I was grateful to work happily under director Ahn’s guidance.”
With its bold premise — a genie trying to corrupt a woman who has no wishes — Genie, Make A Wish promises to be one of Netflix’s most unconventional and daring fantasy romances to date.
