[OSENWORLD] Japanese dancer and choreographer Rie Hata is stepping into a new spotlight for Mnet’s latest survival show — not as a performer, but as a producer and mentor.
On October 15, Mnet held a press conference for its new survival show Unpretty Rapstar: Hip Hop Princess at the Eliena Hotel in Seoul’s Gangnam District. The event featured the producing team and main producers, including (G)I-DLE’s Soyeon, Gaeko, Rie Hata, and Takanori Iwata.
The new series reimagines the legacy of Unpretty Rapstar with a fresh concept that aims to form a global hip-hop girl group through a Korea–Japan co-production. Participants with diverse musical identities — spanning hip-hop, K-pop, and J-pop — will take part in every stage of production, from songwriting and choreography to styling and video direction.
Having previously appeared on Street Woman Fighter 3, Rie Hata explained that she deeply empathized with the contestants’ struggles and ambitions.
“I know what it feels like to compete in a tough environment,” she said. “It’s not just about winning or losing — it’s about fighting against yourself. As a producer, I hope to help them grow and stay motivated, not only as an artist but also as someone who’s like an older sister — or maybe even a mom.”
She also spoke passionately about womanhood and representation in the performance industry.
“As a woman, I always wanted to become someone cool — but there wasn’t much space for that growing up,” she reflected. “Even as a dancer, expectations were different for women. People would say I should choreograph only for female artists, but I knew I could create something just as powerful as any man. So I decided early on that I would help build a world where strong women could stand tall.”
Reflecting on the Hip Hop Princess contestants, Rie Hata added,
“Seeing these 40 girls — not just cute, but truly powerful — made me feel emotional. Watching them produce and perform reminded me of my younger self. It was healing, almost like reclaiming a part of my past. I really want to cheer them on from the bottom of my heart.”
Mnet’s Unpretty Rapstar: Hip Hop Princess premieres on October 16 at 9:50 p.m. KST, promising a new chapter of cross-cultural collaboration and female empowerment in the hip-hop scene.
波多 リエ、新番組「Unpretty Rapstar: Hip Hop Princess」でプロデューサーに就任：「お姉さんのように、時にはお母さんのように支えたい」
日本を代表するダンサーであり振付師の波多 リエが、Mnetの新サバイバル番組「Unpretty Rapstar: Hip Hop Princess（アンプリティ・ラップスター：ヒップホップ・プリンセス）」でプロデューサーとして新たな一歩を踏み出した。
10月15日、ソウル・江南区のエルリナホテルで行われた制作発表会には、番組の制作陣のほか、(G)I-DLEのソヨン、GAEKO、波多 リエ、そして**岩田 剛典（Takanori Iwata）**が登壇し、番組への意気込みを語った。
本作は、韓国と日本がタッグを組み、新たなグローバルなヒップホップガールズグループの誕生を目指す大型プロジェクトだ。ヒップホップ、K-POP、J-POPといった異なるアイデンティティを持つ参加者たちが、作詞作曲・振付・スタイリング・映像制作など、すべての制作過程に直接参加しながら新しい音楽の形を創り上げていく。
以前「Street Woman Fighter 3」に出演した経験を持つ波多 リエは、参加者たちの挑戦や葛藤に強く共感していると明かした。
「厳しい環境で戦う気持ちは私もよくわかるんです。勝ち負けだけではなく、自分自身との戦いでもあると思うんです。プロデューサーとして、彼女たちが成長し、モチベーションを保てるようにサポートしたい。お姉さんのように、時にはお母さんのように寄り添えたらと思います」
さらに波多 リエは、女性として、またパフォーマーとしての思いも語った。
「小さい頃から“カッコいい女性になりたい”と思っていましたが、そういう場所がなかなかありませんでした。女性ダンサーには“女性アーティスト向けの振付をしてほしい”と言われることもありましたが、私は男性に引けを取らないくらいパワフルなものを作れる自信がありました。だからこそ、強い女性が輝けるシーンを自分で作りたいと思ったんです」
そして番組の参加者たちについて、彼女は目を輝かせながらこう語った。
「今回の40人の参加者たちは、ただ“かわいい”だけでなく本当に強くてカッコいい。彼女たちの姿を見て胸が熱くなりました。自分の若い頃を思い出し、まるで当時の自分を救ってもらったような気持ちです。心から応援したいです」
「Unpretty Rapstar: Hip Hop Princess」は、**10月16日夜9時50分（韓国時間）**より放送スタートする。ヒップホップシーンに新たな風を吹き込む、女性たちの情熱と連帯を描く注目作だ。
