[OSENWORLD] Actor Hong Kyung, star of Netflix’s Good News, has shared his hopes for the future — including a dream collaboration with Jeon Do-yeon and a desire to take on a passionate, chaotic romance while he’s still young.
Speaking with Korean press on October 21, Hong reflected on Good News and what the film means to him. “Seo Go-myung is very special to me,” he said of his role as an elite Air Force traffic officer. “Everyone has their own standard, but for me, my twenties have been incredibly precious. I met this character at the very end of that chapter. Throughout my twenties, I was chasing things I couldn’t see — and somehow, this story captured that feeling. Meeting Go-myung felt almost fated.”
Directed by Byun Sung-hyun, Good News is a 1970s-set thriller about a group of people determined to safely land a hijacked plane. The film features Hong alongside veteran actor Sul KyungGu, with Jeon Do-yeon making a special appearance as the First Lady — a moment Hong calls one of his favorites.

“The moment Jeon Do-yeon appeared, she completely commanded the scene,” he said with awe. “It was sophisticated comedy — the kind only she could pull off. Watching her and Sul KyungGu act was like watching a magic trick. Even standing right there, I couldn’t figure out how they did it. I stayed behind the monitor just to watch their conversation.”
Hong also opened up about the actors who inspired him growing up.
“There are so many,” he said with a smile. “Sul KyungGu, Ryoo Seung-bum, Al Pacino, Denzel Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio — I grew up watching all of them. They all seemed so far away, like people I could never possibly work with.”
After a pause, he added:
“This is the first time I’ve ever said this, but I really want to work with Jeon Do-yeon someday.”

Hong also reflected on his ambitions:
“I want to be a true movie star,” he said. “I grew up watching films and wanting to be someone who makes people go to the theater just to see me. A movie star should have charisma and energy — a presence that pulls you in before they even speak.”
When asked what kind of film he hopes to take on next, Hong didn’t hesitate:
“While I’m still young, I want to take on a love story that’s passionate, stormy, and unpredictable — a turbulent love story.”
He went on to describe his approach to acting:
“Each step I’ve taken — Innocence, Weak Hero Class 1, Troll Factory, Hear Me: Our Summer and The Comment Army — has taught me something. I’ve always tried to find something only I could do, and to move forward one step at a time. It’s been a process of building layers, and I’m grateful for that.”
